Rooftop Series Summer Festival: Five Nights of Magic in Valletta
As the sun begins to set over the historic city of Valletta, the rooftops of the Grandmaster’s Palace and St. John’s Co-Cathedral start to hum with a different kind of energy. It’s not the usual tourist chatter or the clatter of horse-drawn carriages, but the buzz of anticipation for the return of the Rooftop Series Summer Festival.
Five Nights of Magic
The annual festival, now in its fifth year, is set to transform five rooftops across Malta into vibrant stages for music and theatre. Kicking off on the 21st of July, the festival promises a diverse line-up that’s sure to cater to every taste. From the soulful sounds of local favourite, Red Electrick, to the electronic beats of international acts like Kiasmos, this year’s festival is not one to be missed.
But it’s not just about the music. The Rooftop Series is also a celebration of Malta’s rich cultural heritage. Each night, the festival will showcase a different aspect of Maltese culture, from traditional folk music to contemporary theatre. This year, the Malta Drama Centre will be performing an excerpt from their latest production, ‘The Siege’, a powerful play about the Great Siege of Malta in 1565.
Rooftops with a View
One of the unique aspects of the Rooftop Series is its use of some of Malta’s most stunning rooftops as venues. This year, the festival will take place on the rooftops of the Grandmaster’s Palace, St. John’s Co-Cathedral, the Upper Barrakka Gardens, the Mediterranean Conference Centre, and the newly added rooftop of the Valletta Design Cluster.
Each rooftop offers a unique perspective of the city, from the panoramic views of the Grand Harbour to the historic architecture of the city’s streets. It’s an opportunity to see Valletta in a whole new light, quite literally, as the sun sets and the city lights start to twinkle.
More Than Just a Festival
The Rooftop Series is more than just a music and theatre festival. It’s a celebration of community, of culture, and of the unique spirit of Malta. It’s a chance to come together, to enjoy the arts, and to appreciate the beauty of our historic city.
So, whether you’re a local looking for a fun night out, or a tourist wanting to experience the real Malta, the Rooftop Series Summer Festival is an event not to be missed. And who knows, you might just find yourself dancing under the stars, with the historic city of Valletta as your backdrop.
