Fire Destroys Former Paceville Nightclub

Blaze Engulfs Former Paceville Nightclub

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a fire broke out at the derelict former site of the popular nightclub, ‘The Box’, in Paceville, St. Julian’s. The once-thriving venue, which closed its doors in 2015, was left a shell of its former glory, and now, it’s been reduced to smoldering ruins.

Firefighters Battle the Blaze

The Malta Fire Authority (MFA) received a call at around 3:30 AM, dispatching multiple units to the scene. Upon arrival, firefighters found the abandoned building engulfed in flames, with smoke billowing into the night sky, visible from nearby streets like St. George’s Road and Triq San Giljan.

It took several hours for the MFA to bring the fire under control. No injuries were reported, but the building was completely destroyed. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire, with arson not being ruled out.

Paceville’s Changing Face

Paceville, once the epicenter of Malta’s nightlife, has seen a decline in recent years, with many clubs and bars closing or relocating. The fire at ‘The Box’ is a stark reminder of this shift, leaving locals and tourists alike wondering what the future holds for the area.

Local councilor, Mario Vella, expressed his concerns, “This fire is another blow to Paceville. We need to work together to regenerate this area, attract new businesses, and ensure the safety of our community.”

Hot Malta reached out to the St. Julian’s Local Council for comment, but they were unavailable at the time of publication.
