Emergency services rushed to Dingli Cliffs yesterday afternoon following reports of a paraglider crash. The incident, which occurred around 3 PM, left the pilot with serious injuries.
Dramatic Rescue at Dingli’s Edge
The paraglider, a 35-year-old local resident, had launched from the popular take-off point at Dingli Cliffs, a scenic spot known for its breathtaking views of the Mediterranean and the surrounding countryside. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the glider spiraling down before crashing into the rugged terrain below.
Fire and Rescue Services, along with an Air Malta aircraft equipped for medical evacuations, were swiftly deployed. The injured paraglider was airlifted to Mater Dei Hospital, where he underwent surgery for his injuries. His condition is now stable.
Weather Conditions and Safety Concerns
Winds were strong at the time of the incident, with gusts reaching up to 30 km/h. The Malta Aviation Club, which regulates paragliding activities in the country, has since issued a statement reminding enthusiasts to always check weather conditions and adhere to safety guidelines.
“Dingli Cliffs is a challenging but popular site for paragliders,” said club president, Mario Vella. “We urge all pilots to exercise caution, especially in strong wind conditions. Safety should always be our top priority.”

Locals and tourists alike have expressed their concern and support for the injured paraglider. Many have taken to social media to wish him a speedy recovery. The incident has also sparked conversations about safety measures and regulations at Dingli Cliffs.
“We’ve always known Dingli Cliffs can be dangerous,” said Joseph, a local resident. “But we never want to see anyone get hurt. Maybe it’s time to review safety measures here.”
