Order of St Lazarus Joins the Digital Age with Facebook Page
Ever felt like Malta’s rich history and cultural heritage could use a bit more global recognition? Well, buckle up, because the International Academy of the Order of St Lazarus has just launched a Facebook page, and they’re ready to make some noise.
Who are the Order of St Lazarus?
For those new to the scene, the Order of St Lazarus is an ancient Catholic order, founded in the 11th century to care for those affected by leprosy. Today, they’re a global community dedicated to serving the sick and the poor, with a strong presence right here in Malta.
Why a Facebook page now?
In an era where social media is king, the Order has decided it’s high time they joined the digital crusade. “We want to engage with the public in a way that’s accessible and relevant to them,” says Chevalier John Attard, a Malta-based member of the Order. “Facebook seemed like the perfect platform to share our work, our history, and our passion with a wider audience.”
The new page, launched earlier this month, is already buzzing with activity. From historical tidbits about the Order’s Malta connection to updates on their charitable work, it’s clear they’re not holding back. “We want people to see the real us,” says Attard. “Not just the historical figures, but the everyday people who are out there making a difference.”
What can we expect?
From behind-the-scenes glimpses of their work at the St Lazarus Home in Rabat to interviews with members and even live streams of events, the Order is pulling out all the stops. They’re also inviting followers to suggest content and engage in conversation, fostering a sense of community around their mission.
But it’s not all serious business. Expect a healthy dose of Malta’s unique charm, too. “We want to show off our beautiful island and the incredible people who call it home,” says Attard. “After all, Malta is as much a part of our story as we are of its.”
So, whether you’re a history buff, a philanthropy enthusiast, or just curious about what’s happening in your backyard, the International Academy of the Order of St Lazarus’ new Facebook page is well worth a follow. Who knows? You might just find yourself inspired to join their cause.
