Casual Elections Fill Vacant Seats in Six Local Councils Today
Imagine this: it’s a sunny afternoon in the heart of Rabat, Malta. You’re strolling along Republic Street, past the grand Basilica, when you notice something unusual. A small crowd has gathered outside the Old Parish Hall. They’re not there for a festival or a market, but to cast their vote. Why? Because today is a casual election day, filling vacant seats in six local councils.
Why Casual Elections Matter
Casual elections might not grab the headlines like general elections, but they’re just as important. They fill vacancies in local councils, ensuring our communities have a full complement of representatives. These councillors make decisions that directly affect our daily lives – from local planning to community events.
Which Councils Are Voting Today?
Today’s casual elections will see votes cast in six councils across Malta and Gozo. These include:
- Sliema
- St. Julian’s
- Zebbug
- Xagħra
- Għajnsielem
- Mosta
Each of these councils has one or more vacant seats, and today’s elections will determine who fills those spots.
How to Cast Your Vote
If you’re registered to vote in any of these councils, make sure you head to your local polling station today. Polls are open from 8 am to 6 pm. Remember to bring your ID card and make sure you’re on the electoral register. If you’re not sure where your polling station is, you can check the Electoral Commission’s website.
And if you can’t make it today, don’t worry. You can still vote by post. Just make sure your postal vote reaches the Electoral Commission by 6 pm today.
