Malta’s literary scene is set to be electrified this November as renowned crime author Ian Rankin takes the stage as the international guest of the Malta Book Festival. The Edinburgh-based scribe, known for his gritty Inspector Rebus series, will be gracing our shores to share his insights and experiences with local book lovers.

Rankin’s Malta Connection

Rankin’s visit to Malta isn’t just a fly-by. The author has a personal connection to the island, having spent time here in the past. “I’ve been to Malta a few times,” he revealed in an interview with Hot Malta. “I love the light, the history, and the food. I’m looking forward to returning and exploring more of what the island has to offer.”

What to Expect at the Festival

The Malta Book Festival, now in its 16th edition, will see Rankin participating in various events. He’ll be discussing his latest novel, “A Song for the Dark Times”, as well as his long-standing Inspector Rebus series. Rankin will also be sharing his insights on the craft of writing, offering aspiring authors a chance to learn from one of the best in the business.

Rankin’s sessions will be held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta, with the exact schedule to be announced closer to the event. The festival, which runs from November 12 to 15, will also feature local and international authors, book launches, workshops, and more.

Rankin’s visit is more than just a literary event. It’s an opportunity for Malta’s burgeoning literary scene to learn from one of the greats. “Ian Rankin’s work has inspired many local writers,” says Malta’s National Book Council Chair, Mark Camilleri. “Having him here will not only bring international attention to our festival but also provide a boost to our local writing community.”

Rankin’s presence also signals a growing recognition of Malta’s literary scene on the international stage. “Malta’s literary scene is vibrant and diverse,” says Rankin. “I’m excited to see what’s happening here and to contribute in some small way.”
