Malta’s Green Revolution: New EV Charging Stations and Eco-Tours Unveiled
Imagine this: no more fuel stops on your way from Sliema to Mdina. That’s the future Malta’s government and private sector have just brought a step closer, with two major announcements on June 24, 2026. The day saw the unveiling of a nationwide network of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and the launch of eco-tours to showcase our archipelago’s green side.
Plugging In: Malta’s EV Charging Network
In a move that will transform Malta’s roads, the government announced the rollout of a comprehensive EV charging infrastructure. The project, a public-private partnership, will see charging stations installed across all six towns and major villages. Key locations include Sliema’s Strand, Paceville’s busy streets, and even the quiet lanes of Rabat.
By 2028, Malta aims to have one charging point for every ten electric vehicles on the road. This ambitious target, part of the government’s ‘Malta Clean Air’ initiative, will make our islands one of the most EV-friendly destinations in the Mediterranean.
Discovering Malta’s Green Side: New Eco-Tours
While the government was busy plugging us into the future, the private sector was showing off our present-day green credentials. A consortium of local tour operators launched a series of eco-tours, designed to highlight Malta’s commitment to sustainability.
The tours, dubbed ‘Malta: Naturally Green’, will take visitors off the beaten track. From exploring the untouched beauty of Comino’s bays to learning about sustainable farming practices in Dingli’s rural heartland, these tours promise a unique, eco-friendly experience.
But it’s not just about showing off our green side. These tours also aim to educate. “We want our visitors to understand that Malta’s commitment to sustainability is more than just a buzzword,” said one of the consortium’s spokespeople. “It’s a way of life.”
