Two Workers Injured in Sliema Fall

Two Workers Hospitalised After Four-Storey Plunge in Sliema

Emergency services rushed to a construction site in Sliema’s Tower Road yesterday afternoon following a four-storey fall involving two workers. The incident, which occurred around 2 PM, left the men, both in their 30s, with serious injuries.

Rescue Operation and Hospitalisation

The Sliema Fire Station, along with an ambulance crew, arrived at the scene to find the workers trapped under debris. It took firefighters over an hour to carefully extract the men, who were then rushed to Mater Dei Hospital. Both are reported to be in stable but serious condition.

Investigation Launched

The Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA) has launched an investigation into the incident. Sources close to the investigation suggest that a faulty safety harness may have been a factor. The construction site, a new apartment block, has been temporarily closed pending the outcome of the investigation.

Neighbours and passersby expressed shock at the incident. “I heard a loud crash and then saw all these people rushing in,” said Maria, a local resident. “It’s scary to think this could happen so close to home.”

This is the second such incident in Malta this year, raising concerns about safety measures on construction sites. In January, a worker fell to his death at a site in Birkirkara.

Hot Malta reached out to the OHSA and the Ministry of Labour for comment but had not received a response at the time of publication.
