A complex rescue operation was launched, involving the use of specialist equipment to stabilize the scaffolding and extract the injured workers. After nearly an hour, both men were freed and rushed to Mater Dei Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Investigation Launched
The incident has been reported to the Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA), which has launched an investigation. Inspectors are currently examining the site and interviewing witnesses to determine the cause of the fall. This is the second such incident in Malta this year, raising concerns about safety standards in the construction industry.
Triq San Pawl, a major thoroughfare connecting Msida to Birkirkara, was closed to traffic for several hours while emergency services worked at the scene. Commuters were advised to use alternative routes, causing significant delays during the morning rush hour.
Hot Malta has reached out to the OHSA and the Ministry of Health for comment. This is a developing story, and we will provide updates as more information becomes available.
