Truck Fire Causes Marfa Road Chaos
Flames Lick Marfa Road: Truck Fire Causes Traffic Chaos
Drivers on Marfa Road were met with an unexpected inferno this afternoon as a truck, laden with goods, burst into flames. The blaze, which started around 2 pm, caused traffic to crawl to a halt and sent plumes of smoke billowing into the sky, visible from as far as Msida.
Quick Thinking Drivers Spring into Action
Eyewitnesses reported that the truck driver managed to pull over safely before the fire engulfed the vehicle. Quick-thinking motorists and residents rushed to help, using fire extinguishers from nearby businesses to try and contain the blaze until the fire services arrived.
“I was driving behind the truck when I saw smoke pouring out,” said Joe, a local resident. “By the time I pulled over, the whole back of the truck was on fire. I grabbed my extinguisher from the garage and joined the others trying to put it out.”
Fire Services Battle Blaze, Road Closure Imposed
Fire services from nearby stations, including Msida and Birkirkara, rushed to the scene. They worked swiftly to extinguish the fire, which took over an hour to fully contain. The intense heat melted parts of the road, leading to a temporary closure of Marfa Road in both directions.
Traffic was diverted via Triq San Gorg Preca and Triq il-Karmnu, causing significant delays during the evening rush hour. Malta Public Transport announced delays to several bus routes, advising commuters to check their website for updates.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The truck, a total loss, was towed away late in the evening.
