Ryan Cachia: Siġġiewi’s New Mayor

In the heart of Malta, the quaint town of Siġġiewi has a new mayor. Ryan Cachia, a familiar face in local politics, has taken the reins, succeeding Mario Fava. But who is Ryan Cachia, and what does his appointment mean for the ‘Town of the Great Siege’?

From Local Councillor to Mayor

Ryan Cachia’s political journey is a testament to his commitment to Siġġiewi. A local councillor for the past seven years, he has been instrumental in various projects that have shaped the town. His rise to the mayoral seat was not without challenges. The election process was a tight race, with Cachia ultimately securing victory by a narrow margin.

“It was a close call,” Cachia admits, “but I’m grateful for the trust the people of Siġġiewi have placed in me. I’m ready to serve and make a difference.”

Cachia’s Vision for Siġġiewi

Cachia’s vision for Siġġiewi is clear and ambitious. He plans to continue the good work of his predecessor, Mario Fava, while also introducing new initiatives. “I want to build on the progress made under Mario’s leadership,” Cachia says, “but I also have my own ideas to improve our town.”

One of Cachia’s key priorities is the redevelopment of the Triq San Pawl area. This bustling street, lined with traditional Maltese balconies, is set to undergo a facelift, with plans for improved infrastructure and greenery. “We want to make Triq San Pawl a more inviting space for residents and visitors alike,” Cachia explains.

Another focus is the promotion of Siġġiewi’s cultural heritage. The town, known for its rich history, will see enhanced efforts to preserve and showcase its unique identity. Cachia is particularly excited about plans to revamp the annual Siġġiewi Festival, a celebration of the town’s patron saint, St. Joseph.

Challenges Ahead

While Cachia’s plans are ambitious, he is not blind to the challenges ahead. Siġġiewi, like many towns in Malta, faces issues such as traffic congestion and limited parking. Cachia acknowledges these challenges but remains optimistic. “We’re not going to solve all these problems overnight,” he says, “but we’re committed to working tirelessly to improve our town.”

One of Cachia’s first tasks will be to address the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. With the relaxation of restrictions, Siġġiewi is gearing up to welcome back visitors. Cachia is confident that the town can bounce back stronger than ever.

As Ryan Cachia steps into his new role, one thing is clear: Siġġiewi is in the hands of a dedicated and passionate leader. With his vision for the town and commitment to its residents, Cachia is set to make his mark on the ‘Town of the Great Siege’.
