Crash Details Emerge
The crash, involving a lone driver, happened around 4 PM. Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle, a silver Ford Focus, careening off the road and crashing into a nearby wall. The driver, a 45-year-old Żebbuġ resident, was extracted from the wreckage by emergency responders and rushed to Mater Dei Hospital with severe injuries.
Community Reacts
News of the crash spread quickly among Żebbuġ’s tight-knit community. Residents gathered at the scene, offering support and sharing condolences with the victim’s family. Many expressed their concern about the increasing number of road accidents in the area.
“This is the third accident this year on this stretch of road,” said Joe, a ŻebbuĒ resident who preferred not to give his last name. “Something needs to be done. We can’t keep losing our loved ones like this.”
Call for Action
Local councillor, Mario Debono, echoed the community’s sentiments. “We’ve been pushing for improved safety measures here for years. We need better signage, speed cameras, anything that can help reduce these accidents,” he said. Debono has promised to raise the issue again with the relevant authorities.
In the meantime, the Żebbuġ community is rallying around the injured driver and his family. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with medical expenses, and a prayer vigil is planned for this Sunday at St. Peter’s Church.
