Malta Rallies to Aid Venezuela Quake Victims
Quake Aftermath: Venezuela’s Death Toll Climbs, Tens of Thousands Unaccounted For
Malta’s humanitarian aid organisations are gearing up to assist, as the death toll from Venezuela’s recent earthquakes surges past 920, with tens of thousands still missing. The tremors, measuring up to 7.3 on the Richter scale, have left entire towns in rubble and thousands of families displaced.
Malta’s Response: Ready to Lend a Helping Hand
Locally, the Maltese government and NGOs are coordinating efforts to provide immediate relief. The Malta Red Cross has already dispatched a team to assess the situation and provide assistance. “We’re ready to lend a helping hand,” says Malta Red Cross Secretary General, Dr. Marceline Naudi. “Our team is on the ground, assessing the needs and distributing aid where it’s most needed.”
Malta’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Evarist Bartolo, has also expressed his condolences and pledged support. “Our thoughts are with the Venezuelan people during this difficult time. Malta stands ready to assist in any way we can,” he said.
Malta’s Venezuelan Community: United in Solidarity
Malta’s Venezuelan community, numbering around 2,000, has come together in solidarity. They’re organising collections of food, clothing, and medical supplies at the Venezuelan Embassy in Ta’ Xbiex and the Venezuelan Cultural Centre in Msida. “We’re united in our support for our fellow Venezuelans,” says community leader, Maria Rodriguez.
Meanwhile, local businesses are stepping up. Supermarkets like Plaza and Pavi are accepting donations, while restaurants like La Stanza and La Caverna are organising fundraisers. “It’s our duty to help,” says La Stanza’s owner, Giuseppe Di Giovanni.
As the situation unfolds, Hot Malta will continue to update you on how you can help. For now, remember, every little bit counts. Let’s show the world that Malta stands united in support of Venezuela.
