Woman’s Water Park Woes: ‘Shattered’ Feet Spark Safety Concerns

Malta’s sunny shores have long been a magnet for thrill-seekers, but one local attraction has found itself in hot water after a woman claimed she ‘shattered’ her feet on one of its slides. The incident has sparked safety concerns and raised questions about the maintenance of the popular water park, Slide ‘N’ Splash, situated in the bustling town of Qawra.

From Thrills to Spills

Last weekend, 32-year-old Maltese resident, Maria Grech, visited Slide ‘N’ Splash with her family. Her day of fun turned into a nightmare when she claims she slipped and fell on the ‘Black Hole’ slide, resulting in severe injuries to her feet. “I felt like I was sliding on glass,” she recalled, “I heard a crunching sound, and then I saw blood.”

Grech was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital, where she was diagnosed with multiple fractures in her feet. She is now facing a lengthy recovery period and has been advised not to put any weight on her feet for the next six weeks.

Park Under Scrutiny

Slide ‘N’ Splash management has been tight-lipped about the incident, merely stating that they are “investigating the matter.” However, the park’s silence has done little to quell the growing concerns among patrons and local residents. Some have taken to social media to share their own experiences of slippery slides and poorly maintained facilities.

Malta’s Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA) has confirmed that they are looking into the incident. “We take all such matters seriously,” a spokesperson said, “and will be conducting a thorough inspection of the park’s facilities.”

This is not the first time Slide ‘N’ Splash has found itself in the spotlight. In 2019, the park was temporarily closed after a child was injured on the ‘Cobra’ slide. The incident led to calls for stricter safety regulations and better maintenance of the park’s attractions.

Safety First

While Slide ‘N’ Splash remains open for business, some patrons are exercising caution. “I’ve been coming here for years,” said regular visitor, Joe Borg, “but after hearing about Maria’s accident, I’m not sure it’s worth the risk.”

Grech, for her part, is calling for better safety measures. “I just want to make sure no one else has to go through what I did,” she said, “I love water parks, but not at the expense of my health.”

As the investigation into Grech’s accident continues, one thing is clear: the fun in the sun at Slide ‘N’ Splash may now come with a side of caution.
