Chicken Noodles Linked to Food Poisoning Outbreak in Rabat
Chicken Noodles Under Scrutiny: A Food Poisoning Investigation in Malta
In the heart of Malta’s bustling Rabat, the popular food stall ‘Noodle Delight’ has been temporarily shut down. The reason? A suspected outbreak of food poisoning, with chicken noodles at the centre of the investigation.
Symptoms and Reports
Over the weekend, several customers who had indulged in the stall’s signature chicken noodles started reporting symptoms of food poisoning. Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea were among the complaints, with some requiring medical attention. The Health Department was swift to react, closing down the stall on Sunday evening.
Dr. Matthew Pace, the Health Department’s spokesperson, confirmed the incident, “We received reports of suspected food poisoning cases linked to ‘Noodle Delight’. We’ve taken samples and closed the stall pending further investigation.”
Traceback and Testing
The investigation is focusing on the chicken used in the noodles. Samples have been taken from the stall, the supplier, and the chicken itself. The Health Department is also tracing the chicken’s journey back to its source, a local farm in Siggiewi.
Laboratory tests are underway to identify the specific bacteria or virus causing the symptoms. Dr. Pace assured, “We’re leaving no stone unturned. Our priority is ensuring the safety of the public.”
Meanwhile, ‘Noodle Delight’ owner, Joseph Xuereb, has been cooperative. “I’m as shocked as anyone,” he said. “I’ve always maintained high hygiene standards. I’m fully cooperating with the investigation and hope to reopen soon.”
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of food safety. It’s a timely reminder for both consumers and vendors to ensure hygiene standards are met. As Dr. Pace put it, “Food poisoning can happen anywhere. It’s crucial to follow proper food handling and preparation guidelines.”
