Gozo Drug Bust: Man Caught with Crack Cocaine on Unlicensed Motorcycle

In the heart of Gozo, a man was caught red-handed with crack cocaine, not on a licensed motorcycle, but on a makeshift one, raising eyebrows and concerns among the close-knit community of this peaceful Maltese island.

Unlicensed Ride, Illegal Cargo

The man, a local resident in his late twenties, was intercepted by police on the main road leading to the picturesque village of Xagħra. His unlicensed motorcycle, a modified moped, was no match for the police’s swift response. But it was the illegal cargo he was carrying that made this traffic stop anything but routine.

“It was around 9 pm when we received a tip-off,” said Inspector Mario Portelli, leading the operation. “We spotted the moped speeding along Triq San Lawrenz. It was clear something was amiss. The bike was heavily modified, and the rider seemed nervous.”

Crack Cocaine Seized in Gozo

Upon inspection, officers discovered a small plastic bag containing crack cocaine tucked away in the moped’s makeshift storage compartment. The man was immediately arrested and taken into custody. The seized drugs, weighing approximately 5 grams, could have fetched a hefty price on the streets of Gozo and beyond.

This seizure is part of a larger operation targeting drug trafficking in Gozo. “We’ve seen an uptick in drug-related activities recently,” Inspector Portelli admitted. “But we’re committed to keeping our streets safe. This arrest sends a clear message to anyone thinking of dealing drugs in Gozo – we’re watching, and we won’t hesitate to act.”

Community Reaction and Prevention Efforts

News of the arrest spread like wildfire among the tight-knit community of Gozo. Many residents expressed shock and concern. “We’ve always felt safe here,” said Maria Azzopardi, a long-time resident of Xagħra. “But this incident serves as a reminder that no place is immune to such issues.”

In response, local councils and community leaders are stepping up prevention efforts. “We’re planning more community outreach programs and awareness campaigns,” said Joseph Muscat, mayor of Xagħra. “We want to educate our youth about the dangers of drugs and encourage them to make better choices.”
