New Bus Routes Cause Morning Chaos

Traffic Snarls as New Bus Routes Kick In

Malta’s roads were a symphony of honking horns and exasperated drivers this morning, as the new bus routes finally came into effect. The long-awaited changes, aimed at improving public transport efficiency, had commuters across the island scratching their heads and checking their watches.

In Floriana, near the Old Railway Station, the usual morning bustle was amplified by the confusion. “I’ve been waiting for the 125 to St. Julian’s for 15 minutes,” grumbled Joe, a regular commuter. “It used to be here on the dot. Now, who knows when it’ll show up?”

New Routes, New Challenges

The Public Transport team, led by Minister for Transport, Infrastructure, and Planning, Dr. Ian Borg, has been working tirelessly to streamline the bus network. The new routes, designed to serve more people and reduce waiting times, have been a long time coming. But as with any significant change, teething problems were inevitable.

One of the most talked-about changes is the new route for bus 109, which now passes through Msida and Birkirkara instead of its previous route via Msida and Lija. While this might seem like a minor adjustment, it’s causing a ripple effect, with many commuters having to adjust their travel plans.

Minister Borg: “Patience and Feedback Needed”

Minister Borg, addressing the situation, said, “We understand that these changes can be disruptive in the short term. But we’re confident that, in the long run, they will significantly improve our public transport system. We urge the public to be patient and to give us their feedback. We’re here to listen and to make adjustments where necessary.”

In the meantime, traffic wardens have been deployed at strategic points across the island to help direct traffic and assist confused commuters. The Transport Ministry has also set up a dedicated hotline (506 2222) to handle queries and complaints.
