Their usual Sunday closure sign has been replaced with a handwritten note, “Open today due to high demand.” Inside, pharmacist Dr. Joseph Borg is holding down the fort, his eyes reflecting a mix of exhaustion and determination.
Meanwhile, in Rabat, Pharmacy 153 is also open, their neon sign casting a reassuring glow on the otherwise quiet street. Pharmacist Dr. Maria Azzopardi explains, “We couldn’t leave our community high and dry. We’re here to help, even if it means working on our day off.”
Emergency Stocks and Alternatives
For those unable to make it to the open pharmacies, Malta’s hospitals and health centers have emergency stocks. Dr. Matthew Pace, spokesperson for the Malta Medical Association, advises, “If you’re feeling unwell, don’t hesitate to contact your GP or visit the emergency department. We’re here to support you.”
