Motorcyclist Hospitalised After St. Julian’s Crash

Biker Down: Emergency Services Rush to St. Julian’s After Motorcycle Accident

In the heart of St. Julian’s, a popular spot for both locals and tourists, a motorcyclist found themselves in a harrowing situation yesterday afternoon. The rider, a 35-year-old man, lost control of his bike on the bustling Triq San Giljan, sending him tumbling onto the pavement. The incident, which occurred around 3 PM, brought traffic to a standstill and left onlookers shaken.

Emergency Response: Swift and Steady

Within minutes, the familiar wail of sirens filled the air as emergency services rushed to the scene. The Malta Police Force swiftly cordoned off the area, while an ambulance from the Malta Civil Protection Department arrived to tend to the injured rider. Witnesses reported that the biker, although conscious, appeared to be in considerable pain, with his left leg bearing the brunt of the impact.

Paramedics stabilised the man’s injuries before carefully loading him into the ambulance. He was then rushed to Mater Dei Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. Although the extent of his injuries is not yet known, sources close to the situation have indicated that they are not life-threatening.

Investigations Underway: A Reminder for Road Users

The Malta Police are currently investigating the cause of the accident. While it’s too early to determine the exact cause, this incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that motorcyclists face on Malta’s roads. With summer in full swing and tourists flocking to the island, it’s crucial for all road users to remain vigilant and adhere to traffic rules.

This is not the first such incident in recent weeks. In late June, a motorcyclist was seriously injured in a collision with a car in Msida. These incidents highlight the need for increased road safety awareness, particularly among motorcyclists who, due to their lack of protection, are at a higher risk of severe injuries.

Hot Malta reached out to the Malta Road Safety Council for comment. A spokesperson reminded road users, “Motorcyclists, always wear protective gear, including a helmet certified to ECE 22.05 standards. For other road users, be mindful of motorcyclists, especially at junctions and when changing lanes. Let’s all do our part to make our roads safer.”
