Birkirkara Community Unites in Search for Missing Teen

In the quiet residential area of Birkirkara, a sense of unease has settled. It’s been over six weeks since 16-year-old Maria Azzopardi was last seen, and her family, friends, and the local community are living in a state of worry and uncertainty.

Last Seen on Triq il-Karmnu

Maria was last spotted on the evening of March 15th, walking along Triq il-Karmnu, a bustling street lined with shops and restaurants. She was on her way home from her part-time job at a local cafĂ©. Her family reported her missing the following day when she didn’t return home.

Community Rallies Around the Azzopardi Family

The Birkirkara community has come together to support the Azzopardi family. Posters of Maria adorn lamp posts and shop windows, her smiling face a stark reminder of her absence. Neighbours have been sharing information and helping with the search, their collective worry palpable.

Rosette Portelli, a long-time resident of Birkirkara, says, “It’s not like Maria to just disappear. She’s a good girl, always helpful and kind. We’re all hoping for her safe return.”

Police Investigation and Appeal for Information

The Malta Police Force has been investigating Maria’s disappearance, treating it as a high-priority case. They have appealed to the public for any information that could help find Maria. “No piece of information is too small,” says Inspector Joseph Camilleri, leading the investigation.

Maria is described as 5’5″ with a slim build, long brown hair, and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a black hoodie, blue jeans, and white trainers. Anyone with information is urged to contact the police on 119 or the missing persons helpline on 116000.

As the search for Maria continues, her family clings to hope. Her mother, Josephine, says, “We just want her to come home. Please, if you know anything, tell the police. We miss her so much.”
