Rider Hospitalised After Falling Off Bike on Triq il-Mediterran
A motorcyclist was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital yesterday after a nasty fall on the bustling Triq il-Mediterran, leaving locals and passersby shaken. The incident, which occurred around 4 pm, saw the rider, a 35-year-old man from Msida, lose control of his bike and hit the tarmac hard.
Witnesses Describe the Scene
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with the motorcyclist lying injured on the road as traffic came to a standstill. “I was driving by when I saw him fly off his bike,” said one witness, who wished to remain anonymous. “It all happened so fast. I pulled over and called an ambulance right away.”
Emergency Services Respond
The Malta Police Force and Civil Protection Department were quick to respond, closing off the road while paramedics attended to the injured rider. He was later transferred to Mater Dei with suspected broken ribs and a head injury. His condition is stable, and he is expected to make a full recovery.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers motorcyclists face on Malta’s busy roads. According to the Malta Police, there have been over 100 motorcycle-related accidents in the past year alone, with many resulting in serious injuries or fatalities.
In light of this, the Malta Road Safety Council is urging motorcyclists to wear protective gear, follow traffic rules, and ride defensively. “Motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable road users,” said a spokesperson for the council. “We cannot stress enough the importance of safety precautions.”
Meanwhile, the Malta Police is appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Birkirkara Police Station on 2122 4001.
