Lucky Escape as Tree Collapses on Attard Road

Tree Tumble: A Close Call on Attard’s Triq il-Kunvent

It was a scene straight out of a Hollywood disaster movie, but this was no fiction. Two drivers had a lucky escape this morning as a towering tree came crashing down onto Attard’s Triq il-Kunvent, narrowly missing their vehicles. The incident, which occurred around 10 am, left the road blocked and residents shaken.

Witness Accounts

Eyewitnesses described the tree, a centuries-old olive tree by local estimates, suddenly uprooting and toppling onto the road. “I heard this loud crack, like thunder, and then the tree was just coming down,” said Joe, a local resident who wished to be identified only by his first name. “I’ve seen that tree standing there all my life. Never thought it would just… fall like that.”

Emergency Response

The Malta Police Force and Civil Protection Department were quick to respond, closing off the road and ensuring the safety of the public. Firefighters worked swiftly to clear the debris, using chainsaws to cut the tree into manageable sections. “It was a big job,” said a firefighter on the scene. “But we’re just glad no one was hurt.”

Drivers were diverted along Triq San Ġorġ and Triq il-Kunsill, causing minor traffic delays throughout the morning. The tree, now reduced to logs, was eventually removed by mid-afternoon, allowing traffic to resume as normal.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of our environment. While the exact cause of the tree’s collapse is still under investigation, it’s a timely reminder for all of us to appreciate the beauty and fragility of our natural surroundings.

As for the two drivers who had a lucky escape, they were left shaken but unharmed. “I’ve never been so close to something like that,” said one of the drivers, who wished to remain anonymous. “I’m just grateful I’m walking away from this.”
