Sliema’s Qui Si Sana Beach Closed Due to Sewage Leak

Sliema's popular Qui Si Sana beach closed after a sewage leak left residents and tourists disappointed. Local council investigates the source.

Malta Sliema's Qui Si Sana beach closed due to sewage leak

It’s not every day that a beach in Malta’s bustling Sliema closes due to a sewage leak, but that’s exactly what happened yesterday, leaving locals and tourists alike wondering what’s causing the stink. Qui Si Sana, the popular beach along Sliema’s promenade, was cordoned off by the local council after residents and beachgoers complained about an unpleasant smell and discoloured water.

Sewage Leak Forces Beach Closure

According to a spokesperson for the Sliema Local Council, the beach was closed as a precautionary measure following reports of a sewage leak in the vicinity. “We received several complaints from residents and beachgoers about a foul smell and discoloured water,” the spokesperson said. “We immediately closed the beach and are currently investigating the source of the leak.”

Residents and Tourists Left Disappointed

News of the beach closure spread quickly among residents and tourists, with many expressing their disappointment on social media. “I’ve been coming to Qui Si Sana for years, and I’ve never seen anything like this,” said one local resident who wished to remain anonymous. “It’s such a shame, especially with the summer season just starting.”

A group of tourists from the UK, who had planned to spend the day at the beach, were left scratching their heads when they arrived to find it closed. “We’ve been looking forward to this all week,” said one of the tourists. “It’s a real shame we can’t enjoy the beach today.”

Council Assures Public Safety is Priority

The Sliema Local Council has assured the public that the safety of residents and tourists is their top priority. “We are doing everything in our power to identify and fix the leak as soon as possible,” the spokesperson said. “We understand the inconvenience this may cause, and we apologise for any disruption to people’s plans.”

The council has also advised residents and tourists to avoid the area around Qui Si Sana beach until further notice. Signs have been placed around the beach to warn people of the closure.

This is not the first time that a beach in Malta has been closed due to a sewage leak. In recent years, several beaches on the island have been temporarily closed due to similar incidents. Environmental groups have called on the government to do more to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.

As the investigation into the source of the leak continues, one thing is clear: the closure of Qui Si Sana beach is a stark reminder that even in one of Malta’s most popular tourist destinations, nature can sometimes bite back.
