Malta’s €890,000 Energy Tech Boost

Powering Progress: Four Energy Innovations Get €890,000 Boost

Imagine walking down Republic Street, Malta’s bustling thoroughfare, and seeing a futuristic electric vehicle (EV) charging station, or a sleek solar panel array atop a historic building. These aren’t just daydreams; they’re becoming reality, thanks to four innovative energy projects receiving a collective €890,000 funding boost.

Local Projects, Global Impact

The Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST) has awarded these projects under the Horizon 2020 SME Instrument, Europe’s largest funding initiative for small and medium-sized enterprises. The selected projects aren’t just pushing boundaries in Malta; they’re making waves on the global energy stage.

Revolutionizing Electric Vehicle Charging

One of the beneficiaries is EV Charging Company (EVCC), based in the heart of Birkirkara. Their project, ‘EVCC Smart Charging Network’, aims to revolutionize EV charging infrastructure. By integrating smart grid technology, EVCC plans to create a network that optimizes charging efficiency and reduces costs for EV owners.

Imagine charging your EV while enjoying a traditional Maltese pastizzi at a local bakery. That’s the vision EVCC has for Malta’s charging network. With this funding, they’re one step closer to making that vision a reality.

Solar Power for Historic Buildings

Another project, ‘Solar Heritage’, led by Solar Heritage Ltd, is set to transform Malta’s historic buildings into sustainable powerhouses. The project aims to install solar panels on historic structures, preserving their cultural significance while harnessing the power of the sun.

Picture the grand façade of the Old University Building in Valletta, now adorned with sleek, efficient solar panels. This isn’t just a dream; it’s a goal that Solar Heritage is working towards, with the support of this funding.

Energy Storage and More

The other two projects, ‘Energy Storage Malta’ by Energy Storage Malta Ltd and ‘Power-to-Gas’ by Hybrid Energy Ltd, focus on energy storage solutions and converting renewable energy into gas, respectively.

These projects, along with EVCC and Solar Heritage, are set to transform Malta’s energy scene, making it cleaner, greener, and more sustainable.
