Delia Alleges Vote-Baiting: Ministries Offering Jobs ‘Starting Monday’

Standing at the bustling Republic Street in Valletta, Adrian Delia, leader of the Nationalist Party, made a surprising claim today. He alleged that certain ministries are offering jobs ‘starting Monday’ in a bid to win votes, just weeks before the general election.

Delia’s Accusations

Delia, addressing a small crowd outside the Grandmaster’s Palace, stated, “We’ve received numerous reports of people being offered jobs, starting as early as next week, in exchange for their vote.” He accused the Labour Party of using public funds to buy votes, a practice he deemed “undemocratic and unacceptable.”

Delia provided no specific names or details, but he promised to reveal more evidence in the coming days. “We have evidence of this happening in various ministries,” he said, “and we will be sharing this information with the public soon.”

Government’s Response

When contacted for comment, the Office of the Prime Minister dismissed Delia’s claims as “baseless allegations” aimed at creating confusion and fear among voters. A spokesperson stated, “The government is committed to fair and transparent processes in all its recruitment drives. Any suggestion otherwise is a lie and a disservice to the people of Malta.”

The spokesperson also noted that the government has been hiring staff to fill vacancies in various ministries, but these processes are done through the Public Service Commission and are subject to strict rules and regulations.

Pre-Election Tension

The upcoming general election, scheduled for March 26, has seen a rise in tensions between the two main political parties. Both parties have been accused of using various tactics to gain an edge over their opponents. Delia’s latest claims have added fuel to this fire, with both sides digging in their heels and preparing for a heated campaign.

Delia ended his speech with a call to action, “I urge everyone to be vigilant. If you or someone you know is offered a job in exchange for a vote, report it. Let’s not let them buy our votes with our own tax money.”
