Għajnsielem Association Marks 10 Years of Village Pride
Għajnsielem Association Marks a Decade: A Village United
In the heart of Gozo, the small yet vibrant village of Għajnsielem is buzzing with a special kind of energy. It’s not just another day in this rural gem; it’s the day the Għajnsielem Association turns 10. A decade ago, a group of passionate locals came together with a shared vision: to preserve their village’s unique identity and promote its growth. Today, they celebrate their anniversary, a testament to unity, resilience, and love for their community.
From Humble Beginnings to a Village Voice
In 2012, a handful of Għajnsielem residents gathered at the village square, under the shade of the ancient olive tree. Their goal was simple yet ambitious – to create a platform where locals could voice their ideas, concerns, and aspirations. Thus, the Għajnsielem Association was born. They started small, with regular meetings at the village’s community center, now known as ‘Il-Kamra tal-Għajnsielem’.
Over the years, the association has grown into a powerful voice for the village. It’s now a registered NGO with over 100 members, each bringing their unique skills and perspectives to the table. From farmers to teachers, artisans to entrepreneurs, they’re united by their love for Għajnsielem and their commitment to its future.
Celebrating a Decade of Achievements
The Għajnsielem Association has left an indelible mark on the village. They’ve spearheaded numerous projects, from the restoration of the historic St. George’s Basilica to the creation of the Għajnsielem Village Trail, a scenic route that showcases the village’s rich history and natural beauty. They’ve also organized cultural events like the annual Għajnsielem Folklore Festival, which attracts thousands of visitors each year.
But perhaps their most significant achievement is the transformation of the once-neglected Triq il-Kbira (Main Street) into a thriving hub of local commerce. Today, it’s lined with bustling cafes, artisan shops, and traditional bakeries, all testament to the association’s efforts to promote sustainable, community-led development.
: A Village United in Progress
The Għajnsielem Association’s 10th anniversary is more than just a milestone; it’s a promise. A promise to continue working together, to keep the village’s spirit alive, and to ensure that Għajnsielem remains a place of pride, progress, and unity. As the association’s president, Joseph Muscat, puts it, “We’ve come a long way, but there’s still so much we can do. Our village is our home, our heritage, and our future. And we’re united in shaping it together.”
So, here’s to the next decade. To the unity that binds Għajnsielem, to the progress that defines it, and to the love that makes it home. Happy 10th anniversary, Għajnsielem Association!
