Malta Marks Sir David Attenborough’s 100 with ‘A Night Under the Stars’
Malta to Mark Sir David Attenborough’s 100th with a Night Under the Stars
Imagine standing on the historic bastions of Valletta, the cool Mediterranean breeze on your face, gazing up at the night sky. Now, imagine doing that while celebrating a century of one of the world’s most beloved broadcasters, Sir David Attenborough. This isn’t a dream, but a reality thanks to the upcoming fundraising event, ‘A Night Under the Stars’, organised by the Malta-based NGO, Greenhouse.
Honouring a Lifetime of Exploration
Sir David Attenborough, the renowned naturalist and broadcaster, turns 100 on May 8th, 2022. To mark this extraordinary milestone, Greenhouse is hosting a unique fundraising event in Malta. The evening will celebrate Attenborough’s lifelong dedication to exploring and documenting the natural world, inspiring generations to appreciate and protect our planet.
“We wanted to do something special to honour Sir David’s incredible career and raise awareness about environmental conservation,” says Greenhouse’s founder, Maria Attard. “What better way than to gather under the stars, just like he’s done countless times in his documentaries?”
A Night Under the Stars: What to Expect
The event will take place on Saturday, May 14th, at the Upper Barrakka Gardens in Valletta. Guests can expect a fascinating talk by a local environmental expert, followed by a guided stargazing session using telescopes provided by the Malta Astronomical Society. There will also be live music, local food and drinks, and a silent auction with unique items up for grabs.
“We’re transforming the Upper Barrakka Gardens into a magical space where people can connect with nature, learn about our local environment, and enjoy a fantastic night out,” says Attard.
All proceeds from the event will go towards Greenhouse’s ongoing projects, including their educational workshops and community clean-up initiatives.
Tickets are €25 and can be purchased online at greenhouse.org.mt/events/a-night-under-the-stars/
Sir David Attenborough’s Legacy in Malta
Malta has been the backdrop for several of Attenborough’s documentaries, including ‘Life in Cold Blood’ and ‘Planet Earth II’. His work has not only captivated audiences worldwide but also highlighted Malta’s unique biodiversity.
“Sir David’s documentaries have inspired so many people in Malta to appreciate and protect our local wildlife,” says Dr. Andrea Debarr, a local biologist. “Events like ‘A Night Under the Stars’ are a fantastic way to celebrate his legacy and engage the community in environmental conservation.”
Join us for ‘A Night Under the Stars’ and help celebrate a century of exploration, discovery, and inspiration.
