Malta’s First Animal Rehoming Centre: Coming Soon to Marsaxlokk

Paws for Joy: Animal Rehoming Centre Set for Marsaxlokk

Imagine this: a sprawling, sun-drenched field in Marsaxlokk, where the scent of saltwater and fresh paint mingle. This isn’t just any field; it’s the future home of Malta’s first dedicated animal rehoming centre. The vision is clear, the plans are in motion, and the island’s animal lovers are buzzing with anticipation.

From Vision to Reality

No More Homeless Pets Malta (NMHP), a local charity, has been tirelessly working to turn this dream into a reality. Their mission? To create a safe, spacious haven where abandoned, neglected, and surrendered animals can find temporary refuge and, ultimately, loving, permanent homes.

NMHP’s co-founder, Dr. Maria Galea, paints a vivid picture: “We envision a centre where animals can run, play, and be themselves. A place where potential adopters can meet them, interact, and fall in love. A place that truly represents a second chance at life for these beautiful souls.”

What’s in Store for Marsaxlokk?

The rehoming centre, set to span over 1,000 square metres, will include:

    • Separate, spacious enclosures for dogs, cats, and other small animals.
    • A veterinary clinic for initial health checks, treatments, and neutering.
    • Adoption and visitor areas, designed to showcase the animals’ personalities and encourage bonds.
    • Educational facilities to promote responsible pet ownership and animal welfare.

The centre’s location, just off the Marsaxlokk bypass, is no coincidence. It’s easily accessible, yet far enough from residential areas to minimise noise and disturbance. Plus, it’s close to the charity’s existing foster network, ensuring quick response times for animal pick-ups.

Making it Happen

NMHP has already secured the land and raised a significant portion of the €300,000 needed for construction. They’re now rallying the public for the final push, through fundraising events, sponsorships, and donations.

“We’re overwhelmed by the support we’ve received so far,” says Dr. Galea. “But we need everyone’s help to make this happen. Every euro counts, and every voice makes a difference.”
