New Animal Rehoming Centre Coming to Marsaxlokk
Paws for Joy: New Animal Rehoming Centre Set for Marsaxlokk
Imagine strolling along Marsaxlokk’s bustling market, the scent of fresh fish and the chatter of locals filling the air. Now, picture a new addition to this vibrant scene – a beacon of hope for our furry friends in need. That’s right, Hot Malta can exclusively reveal plans for a brand new animal rehoming centre in the heart of this fishing village.
From Nets to Nests: A New Home for Our Furry Friends
The Marsaxlokk Animal Welfare Group (MAWG) has announced ambitious plans to transform a disused warehouse on Triq il-Kbira into a state-of-the-art animal rehoming centre. The centre, set to open its doors in late 2023, will provide a safe haven for stray and abandoned cats and dogs, offering them a chance at a new life with loving families.
“We’re thrilled to finally share our plans,” says MAWG’s founder, Maria Xuereb. “Marsaxlokk has always been a community that cares deeply about its animals. This centre is a testament to that love and commitment.”
More Than Just a Shelter: A Community Hub
The new centre won’t just be a place for animals to wait for their forever homes. It’s designed to be a community hub, offering a range of services to support local pet owners and promote responsible pet ownership.
“We want to create a space where people can come together, learn about animal welfare, and get involved in our work,” explains Xuereb. “There’ll be a community room for workshops and events, as well as a small veterinary clinic offering low-cost services.”
The centre will also house a small café, where visitors can enjoy a coffee while watching the animals play in their spacious enclosures. “We want it to be a place where people can relax, connect, and maybe even find their new best friend,” Xuereb adds.
Building a Better Future, Together
The project is still in its early stages, and MAWG is calling on the local community to get involved. “We need all the help we can get,” says Xuereb. “Whether it’s through volunteering, donating, or simply spreading the word, every little bit helps.”
MAWG has set up a GoFundMe page to help raise funds for the project. You can find it by searching ‘Marsaxlokk Animal Rehoming Centre’ on the platform. The group is also welcoming offers of support from local businesses.
Xuereb is optimistic about the future. “We know this centre will make a real difference to the lives of so many animals. And we can’t wait to see the positive impact it has on our community too.”
