Rabat’s New Purr-fect Addition: Animal Rehoming Centre Announced
Paws for Joy: Animal Rehoming Centre Set for Rabat
In the heart of Malta, where the historic streets of Rabat whisper tales of ancient times, a new chapter of compassion is about to unfold. The Malta Animal Welfare NGO has announced plans for a state-of-the-art animal rehoming centre, set to transform the lives of countless furry friends in need.
A Haven in the Making
The proposed centre, to be located on Triq il-Kuncizzjoni, will span over 1,000 square metres, providing a spacious sanctuary for cats, dogs, and other animals awaiting their forever homes. The facility will boast modern kennels, a cattery, isolation units, and even a grooming parlour to ensure the animals are well-cared for and ready to win the hearts of potential adopters.
“We envision a place where animals can live, play, and thrive until they find their loving families,” says Dr. Loranne Borg, Chairperson of MAW. “We’re thrilled to bring this project to life in Rabat, a town that’s steeped in history yet open to progress and compassion.”
A Community Effort
The rehoming centre is not just a MAW initiative; it’s a labour of love that the local community is eager to support. The project has received a thumbs-up from Rabat Local Council, with Mayor Mario Cutajar expressing his delight at the prospect of the centre enhancing the town’s reputation as a caring and pet-friendly destination.
Local businesses have also pledged their support, with several companies offering to contribute materials, services, and even volunteering their time to help bring the centre to life. “It’s heartwarming to see the community rallying behind this cause,” says Dr. Borg. “Together, we can create a brighter future for Malta’s abandoned and neglected animals.”
: Adoptions and Education
Once operational, the rehoming centre aims to facilitate around 500 adoptions annually, significantly reducing the number of stray animals on the island. But the centre’s impact will extend beyond adoptions. MAW plans to use the facility to educate the public about responsible pet ownership, animal welfare, and and spaying.
Dr. Borg envisions school visits, community workshops, and even a ‘Paws for Thought’ podcast series to raise awareness and inspire action. “We want this centre to be a beacon of hope and learning,” she says. “A place where every animal has a chance, and every person has the opportunity to learn and make a difference.”
With construction set to begin later this year, the countdown to Rabat’s new purr-fect addition is well and truly on. So, if you’re a pet lover, a Rabat resident, or simply someone who believes in giving every animal a chance, keep your eyes peeled for updates on this exciting project. After all, every tail deserves a happy ending.
