Rain Forces PN to Cancel Event, Labour to Take Cover
Rain’s Unexpected Role in Malta’s Political Drama
It was meant to be a day of political rallying, but Mother Nature had other plans. As the rain poured down on Malta’s streets, it wasn’t just the roads that were flooded – the political scene saw some unexpected changes too. The Nationalist Party (PN) was forced to cancel their event, while the Labour Party (PL) found themselves taking cover, quite literally.
Raincheck for PN’s Event
The PN had planned a major event at the Granaries in Floriana, a historic site that’s no stranger to political gatherings. But the heavy rain and thunderstorms that swept across Malta on Saturday evening forced them to call off the event. The party announced the cancellation on their social media platforms, expressing their disappointment but also their concern for the safety of their supporters.
“We regret to inform our supporters that due to the adverse weather conditions, we have decided to cancel today’s event,” the PN posted on their Facebook page. The party had planned to discuss their vision for Malta’s future, but it seems the weather had other ideas.
Labour Takes Cover
Meanwhile, the PL was not immune to the rain’s interference. While they didn’t have to cancel any events, they did have to adjust their plans. The party had been out campaigning in various localities, but the heavy rain forced them to take shelter in local shops and homes.
PL supporters took to social media to share their experiences, with many posting photos of themselves taking cover from the rain. Some even joked about the unique campaigning experience, turning lemons into lemonade, so to speak.
Politics and the Weather
This isn’t the first time the weather has played a role in Malta’s political scene. In fact, it’s a common occurrence, especially during the summer months when political parties often hold outdoor events. But while the weather might disrupt plans, it rarely stops the political machine from rolling on.
“The show must go on,” said a PN official when asked about the cancelled event. “We’ll just have to wait for the weather to cooperate and reschedule.”
And so, Malta’s political scene continues to evolve, rain or shine. The PN and PL may have had their plans disrupted, but they’re not letting it dampen their spirits. After all, as they say in politics, the only thing certain is uncertainty.
As for the weather, it seems to be clearing up, leaving Malta with a fresh, clean slate. Let’s hope the political scene follows suit.
