Valletta’s ‘Museums by Candlelight’ Returns on June 6

Imagine strolling through the narrow, cobbled streets of Valletta, the capital’s grand buildings and historic sites bathed in the warm, flickering light of candles. This enchanting scene is not a dream, but a reality that awaits you on the evening of June 6, as the popular ‘Museums by Candlelight’ event returns for another captivating edition.

Organised by Heritage Malta, this unique event offers a rare opportunity to explore some of the city’s most iconic museums and historical sites after sunset. From the grandeur of the Grandmaster’s Palace to the intricate beauty of the National Museum of Archaeology, each venue will be transformed, their stories told under the soft glow of candles and torches.

But it’s not just about the ambiance. Each location will host a diverse range of activities, from guided tours and live performances to interactive workshops and exhibitions. It’s a chance to engage with our rich history in a completely different light – literally.

While the full programme is yet to be announced, here’s a sneak peek at some of the star attractions you can expect:

• Grandmaster’s Palace: The official residence of the Grand Master of the Order of St. John will open its doors to showcase its stunning State Apartments and the Armoury, where you can marvel at the gleaming suits of armour by candlelight.
• National Museum of Archaeology: Dive into Malta’s prehistoric past as the museum’s fascinating artefacts are illuminated, telling the story of our ancient ancestors.
