Man Arrested in St. Julian’s Drug Bust

Drugs Seized in St. Julian’s Roadblock: Man Arrested

In the heart of Malta’s bustling St. Julian’s, a routine traffic stop turned into a significant drug bust yesterday evening. A man, driving a silver Ford Focus, was arrested after police discovered a substantial amount of illegal substances in his vehicle. The incident occurred during a roadblock set up by the Malta Police Force on Triq San Ġorġ, a busy street leading to the popular Paceville area.

Drugs and Cash Seized

The police, acting on a tip-off, stopped the car around 9 PM. Upon inspection, they found approximately 50 grams of cocaine, 100 grams of cannabis, and 50 ecstasy tablets hidden in the car’s compartments. A substantial amount of cash, believed to be proceeds from drug sales, was also confiscated. The man, a 35-year-old Maltese resident, was immediately taken into custody for further questioning.

Community Reaction and Local Impact

Residents and businesses in the area reacted with concern but also relief. “We’ve noticed an increase in police presence lately, which is reassuring,” said Maria, a local shop owner. “I hope this sends a strong message to anyone thinking of dealing drugs in our community.” The incident has sparked discussions among locals about the growing drug scene in the once-tourist-dominated area, now also a thriving residential hub.

St. Julian’s Mayor, Alfred Pizzuto, commented, “We’re working closely with the police to ensure our community remains safe. Incidents like these are rare, and we’re committed to keeping it that way.” The mayor also urged residents to report any suspicious activities to the police.

Police Operation and Investigation

Inspector Joseph Vella, leading the operation, praised the community’s cooperation. “Today’s seizure is a result of our ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in Malta. We’re sending a clear message: drug dealing will not be tolerated in our communities.” The investigation is ongoing, and more arrests are not ruled out.

The seized drugs and cash will be analyzed, and the man will appear in court soon. The police have not yet released his name, pending further investigations.
