€13k Cocaine Seized in Qrendi Drug Bust
Cocaine Cache: €13,000 Worth Seized in Qrendi Raid
In the quiet, picturesque village of Qrendi, nestled between the ancient temples and the Mediterranean Sea, a significant drug bust took place last week. The Malta Police Force, acting on a tip-off, raided a residence in Triq il-Kuncizzjoni, seizing a substantial amount of cocaine with an estimated street value of €13,000.
The Bust
The operation, led by the Drugs Unit, unfolded swiftly and discreetly. Neighbours reported seeing a flurry of activity around the targeted house, with police vehicles arriving just before dawn. The raid resulted in the arrest of a 35-year-old woman, who was subsequently charged with drug trafficking and possession.
“We received intelligence about this residence and acted swiftly to intercept the drugs before they hit the streets,” said a spokesperson for the Drugs Unit. “This is a significant seizure, and we’re working to trace the source and dismantle the network behind it.”
Qrendi: A Surprise Hotspot?
Qrendi, known for its rich history and scenic views, is not typically associated with large-scale drug trafficking. However, this isn’t the first time the village has made headlines for the wrong reasons. In 2019, a major cannabis farm was discovered in an abandoned house in the area.
Local councilor, Joseph Farrugia, expressed his shock at the latest development. “Qrendi is a tight-knit community. We’re not used to seeing such serious crimes here. We’re cooperating fully with the police and urging anyone with information to come forward.”
The Aftermath
The seized cocaine, weighing approximately 130 grams, was taken to the Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis. The arrested woman was remanded in custody pending further investigations. The police are appealing to anyone with information about the case to contact them on 119 or via the 112 app.
As the investigation continues, Qrendi residents are left wondering how such a large drug cache ended up in their peaceful village. One thing is clear, though – the Malta Police Force is determined to root out drug trafficking, no matter where it rears its ugly head.
“Our message is simple,” said the Drugs Unit spokesperson. “If you’re involved in drug trafficking, we will find you, and we will bring you to justice.”
