Cocaine Cache: €13,000 Worth of Drugs Seized in Qrendi

Picture this: a quiet, sun-kissed street in the heart of Qrendi, a small village in the south of Malta. The scent of jasmine fills the air, and the hum of bees is the soundtrack to another lazy afternoon. Suddenly, the tranquility is shattered as police officers, faces set, knock on a door. They’re not here for a friendly chat. They’re here because they’ve just received a tip-off that could lead them to €13,000 worth of cocaine.

That tip-off proved spot on. In a raid that lasted barely an hour, the police found exactly that – 13,000 euros’ worth of cocaine, hidden in a residence on Triq il-Kuncizzjoni, a narrow, winding street that’s more used to the comings and goings of local farmers than drug dealers.

From Tip-Off to Arrest

The police aren’t saying where the tip-off came from, but they’re quick to praise the anonymous informant. “This is a great example of how community involvement can help us tackle drug crime,” a spokesperson for the Malta Police Force tells Hot Malta. “We can’t do this alone. We need the public’s help.”

The raid was swift and efficient. The drugs were found in a bag hidden in a wardrobe. A 35-year-old woman, who we’re not naming to protect her identity, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled drug and trafficking.

Qrendi: A Surprise Hotspot for Drugs?

Qrendi might not be the first place that springs to mind when you think of Malta’s drug scene. It’s more known for its ancient temples and traditional festivals than its criminal underworld. But the police say it’s no surprise that drugs were found here.

“Drugs don’t respect boundaries,” the police spokesperson says. “They’re everywhere, in every community. Qrendi is no exception. We’re committed to stamping them out, wherever we find them.”

The woman arrested is due in court next month. In the meantime, life in Qrendi goes on. The jasmine still blooms, the bees still hum, and the police are still on the lookout, ready to act on the next tip-off.
