Malta Election: Voting Docs Collection Starts Tuesday

Malta’s Election Season Kickstarts: Voting Documents Collection Begins

Imagine this: the quiet hum of the post office on Triq San Gwann, Malta’s main thoroughfare, suddenly buzzing with activity. That’s the scene that’s about to unfold as the collection of voting documents for Malta’s upcoming election starts on Tuesday. But what does this mean for you, the voter? Let’s look the details.

What’s Changing This Time Around?

This year’s election, scheduled for March 26, brings with it a new system. Instead of the traditional method where voters had to collect their documents from their respective local councils, the Electoral Commission is now taking the lead. This means a more streamlined process, with documents available at designated collection points across Malta and Gozo.

Where and When Can You Collect Your Documents?

Collection points will be set up at all local councils’ offices, as well as at the Electoral Commission’s headquarters in Floriana. The collection period runs from Tuesday, February 22, to Friday, March 18, between 8:30 AM and 6:30 PM on weekdays, and from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturdays. Remember to bring your ID card with you.

For those living in Gozo, the collection points are at the Gozo Regional Office in Victoria and the Gozo Local Council offices. The timings are the same as in Malta, but the collection period ends on March 17 due to the Gozitan public holiday on March 18.

What If You Can’t Collect Your Documents?

Don’t worry if you can’t make it to the collection points during the specified times. You can still collect your documents on polling day, March 26, at your designated polling station. However, the Electoral Commission encourages everyone to collect their documents beforehand to avoid long queues on election day.

For those who are unable to collect their documents due to health reasons or disability, special arrangements can be made. You can contact the Electoral Commission on 21242900 or email them at elections@gov.mt for assistance.

What’s Next?

After collecting your documents, the next step is to fill them out and cast your vote. But before that, make sure to stay informed about the candidates and parties standing in your district. Hot Malta will be bringing you all the latest news and analysis to help you make an informed decision.

So, mark your calendars, Malta. The election season is officially underway. Let’s make our voices heard!
