Alex Borg: A PN Government for the People

‘A PN government will put people at the centre of its politics’: Alex Borg

Alex Borg, the Nationalist Party’s (PN) candidate for the 13th District, has been a familiar face in Maltese politics for decades. But as he strolls through the bustling streets of Rabat, his home town, it’s clear that his connection to the people remains as strong as ever. He’s not just a politician; he’s a neighbour, a friend, a fellow Rabat resident. And he’s got a message for Malta: a PN government will put people at the centre of its politics.

From Rabat to the Halls of Parliament

Borg’s political journey began right here in Rabat, where he was born and raised. He’s seen the town transform over the years, from a quiet rural hub to a bustling tourist destination. He’s witnessed the challenges and opportunities that come with growth, and he believes that his personal experience gives him a unique perspective on what Malta needs.

“Rabat is more than just my hometown,” Borg says, gesturing to the historic streets around us. “It’s a microcosm of Malta. It’s experienced the same growth, the same challenges. If we can get things right here, we can get them right for the whole country.”

People-Focused Politics: What Does That Mean?

So, what does it mean for a government to put people at the centre of its politics? For Borg, it’s about listening, understanding, and acting on the needs and concerns of everyday Maltese people.

“It’s about making sure that our policies are designed with the people in mind,” he explains. “That means talking to people, understanding their struggles, and using that understanding to guide our decision-making. It means being accessible, being approachable, and being accountable.”

Borg points to the PN’s recent policy proposals as evidence of this people-focused approach. From affordable housing initiatives to plans for better healthcare services, the PN is promising a government that works for the people, not the other way around.

From Promises to Action: Borg’s Plan

But Borg knows that talk is cheap. He’s got a plan to turn these promises into action. If elected, he promises to hold regular public meetings in each district to hear directly from the people. He wants to establish a dedicated hotline for people to reach out to their MP with concerns or suggestions. And he wants to create a digital platform where people can track the progress of their MP’s work and hold them accountable.

“We need to build a government that’s responsive to the people’s needs,” Borg says. “That means being proactive, not reactive. It means listening, learning, and acting. It means putting people at the centre of our politics, not just paying lip service to the idea.”

As we wrap up our conversation, Borg looks out over the streets of Rabat, a determined expression on his face. “This is our home,” he says. “It’s our responsibility to make it the best it can be. And that’s exactly what we’re going to do.”
