Wave of Change Launches ‘Refill, Not Landfill’ Campaign at Xrobb l-Għaġin

Ripples of Change: New Campaign to Kick Off at Xrobb l-Għaġin

Imagine standing at the edge of Xrobb l-Għaġin, the sun dipping below the horizon, painting the sky with hues of orange and pink. Now, picture a wave of change sweeping across that very scene. That’s exactly what’s happening this Saturday as Wave of Change launches its new campaign.

What’s Wave of Change?

Wave of Change is a local initiative dedicated to raising awareness about plastic pollution and promoting sustainable living. Born out of a passion for our island’s beauty and a concern for its future, this grassroots movement has been making waves (pun intended) since 2019.

Founded by Maltese environmentalist and surfer, Matthew Borg, Wave of Change combines beach clean-ups, educational workshops, and innovative projects to tackle plastic waste. Their ultimate goal? To create a cleaner, greener Malta.

Xrobb l-Għaġin: The Launchpad

Xrobb l-Għaġin, a nature reserve and Special Area of Conservation, is the perfect backdrop for this launch. Its rugged coastline and crystal-clear waters embody the beauty Wave of Change is fighting to protect. Plus, it’s a popular spot for locals and tourists alike, making it an ideal starting point for their new campaign.

On Saturday, volunteers will gather at the reserve’s car park (just off Triq il-Wied ta’ Għajn Tuffieħa) at 9 am. Armed with gloves, bags, and a determination to make a difference, they’ll scour the coastline, collecting litter and recording data for future analysis.

More Than Just a Clean-Up

But Wave of Change isn’t just about picking up trash. The new campaign, titled “Refill, Not Landfill”, aims to reduce single-use plastic consumption. Here’s how it works:

    • Volunteers will distribute reusable bottles and bags to participants.
    • They’ll map out refill stations along the coast – places where you can fill up your bottle for free, like local cafes and shops.
    • Post-clean-up, there’ll be a talk on plastic use and how to do it.

By the end of the day, not only will Xrobb l-Għaġin be cleaner, but participants will also have the tools and knowledge to continue making a difference in their daily lives.

So, if you’re passionate about protecting our environment, join Wave of Change this Saturday. Together, we can turn the tide on plastic pollution.

“Every wave starts with a single drop,” says Matthew Borg. “Let’s make that drop count.”
