Meet District 7’s Candidates: Who’s Vying for Your Vote?
District 7 Profile: The Candidates on the Hunt for Votes
It’s a warm evening in Msida, and the bustling streets are a kaleidoscope of campaign posters. The local council elections are just around the corner, and District 7 is abuzz with political energy. But who are the candidates vying for your vote? Let’s meet the contenders and look the issues shaping this electoral race.
Meet the Candidates
Our journey begins at the bustling Triq San Pawl in Msida, where we meet Dr. Mario Borg, the incumbent Labour candidate. A familiar face in the district, Dr. Borg has been a councilor for the past nine years. He’s quick to point out the improvements made under his watch, from the revamped Msida Creek to the new community center.
Just a stone’s throw away, we find Dr. Adrian Vella, the PN candidate. A local resident and a doctor by profession, Dr. Vella is a newcomer to politics but no stranger to community service. He’s made education a key plank of his campaign, promising to advocate for better facilities and resources for local schools.
Rounding off our trio is Mr. Joe Saliba, the candidate for the Alternattiva Demokratika (AD). A long-time environmental activist, Mr. Saliba is focused on sustainability and green initiatives. He’s been a vocal critic of recent development projects in the district, arguing for a more balanced approach to progress.
Issues Shaping the Race
Housing is a hot topic in Msida, with many residents struggling to find affordable accommodation. Dr. Borg points to several new housing projects underway, while Dr. Vella argues for more stringent rent control measures. Mr. Saliba, meanwhile, advocates for more social housing and sustainable living solutions.
Education is another key concern. Dr. Vella’s focus on improving local schools has struck a chord with many parents. Dr. Borg, however, points to the recent expansion of the University of Malta’s Msida campus as a boon for the area’s educational prospects.
Environmental issues are also high on the agenda. Mr. Saliba’s calls for better waste management and green spaces have resonated with many residents. Dr. Borg and Dr. Vella both acknowledge the importance of environmental concerns but argue that progress and sustainability can go hand in hand.
What Voters Want
We spoke to several residents about the issues they care about most. Many mentioned traffic congestion and parking problems, which they hope the next council will address. Others expressed concern about the pace of development, wanting to see more community consultation and a balance between progress and preservation.
Ultimately, voters want candidates who will listen to their concerns and work tirelessly on their behalf. As one resident put it, “We need someone who will roll up their sleeves and get things done, not just make empty promises.”
As the campaign enters its final stretch, the candidates are pulling out all the stops to secure your vote. From door-to-door canvassing to social media blitzes, they’re leaving no stone unturned in their quest to represent you in District 7.
So, who will you choose? The experienced incumbent, the community-minded doctor, or the environmental activist? The future of Msida is in your hands. Make your voice heard on June 12th.
