Fire Guts Derelict Paceville Nightclub

Blaze Engulfs Former Nightlife Hub in Paceville

In the early hours of Tuesday, a fierce fire broke out at the derelict former nightclub, ‘The Club’, in Paceville, sending plumes of smoke into the night sky and causing a stir among nearby residents and revellers.

Firefighters Battle the Blaze

Emergency services received a call around 2:30 AM, with the first fire trucks arriving at the scene within minutes. Firefighters from St. Julian’s and Sliema stations worked tirelessly to contain the blaze, which had already engulfed the entire abandoned building by the time they arrived. The fire was finally extinguished after several hours, leaving the once-vibrant nightspot a smouldering shell.

No Injuries Reported, But Concerns Raised

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, as the building has been closed to the public for years. However, the fire has raised concerns among local residents and business owners about the safety of other derelict properties in the area. “It’s worrying,” said Mario, a nearby shop owner. “There are several abandoned buildings like this one in Paceville. We need to ensure they don’t become fire hazards.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. However, police have not ruled out arson, as there have been previous incidents of vandalism at the site. “We’re treating this as a case of suspected arson until we have concrete evidence to the contrary,” said a police spokesperson.

This incident comes at a time when Paceville is undergoing a transformation, with several new developments and redevelopment projects in the pipeline. While some welcome the change, others lament the loss of Paceville’s once-thriving nightlife scene. “It’s a shame to see these old places go,” said a long-time resident, “but maybe it’s time for something new.”
