Rotten Detergent Batch Sparks Recall in Malta

Stinky Situation: Importers Recall ‘Offensive’ Detergent Batch

Imagine this: you’re doing your laundry, and instead of the fresh scent of clean clothes, you’re hit with a pungent, rotten smell that’s strong enough to make your eyes water. This wasn’t a one-off for many Maltese residents who recently purchased a specific batch of detergent, leading to a mass recall by importers.

Complaints Flood In

Local importer, Maltese Clean Solutions, has been inundated with complaints from customers who purchased a batch of their ‘Fresh Breeze’ detergent. The issue? A foul, rotten smell that’s anything but fresh. “We started receiving calls and messages on our social media pages about a week ago,” says the company’s spokesperson, Maria Grech. “At first, we thought it was an isolated incident, but as more and more people came forward, we realized there was a serious problem.”

The company has traced the issue back to a specific batch of the detergent, manufactured by their overseas supplier. “We’re working closely with them to identify the cause of the contamination,” Grech explains. “In the meantime, we’ve halted sales of this batch and are urging customers who’ve purchased it to return it for a full refund.”

Not Just an Isolated Incident

This isn’t the first time a batch of household products has caused a stink in Malta. In 2019, a batch of washing powder from a different brand was recalled due to a similar issue. Consumers reported a strong, unpleasant smell that lingered on their clothes, even after multiple washes. “It’s a reminder that these things can happen,” says consumer rights advocate, Joe Attard. “It’s important for consumers to know their rights and to speak up when they’ve been sold a faulty product.”

Attard advises anyone who’s purchased the affected batch of ‘Fresh Breeze’ detergent to contact Maltese Clean Solutions directly. “Don’t hesitate to make a complaint. You’re entitled to a refund or replacement, and your feedback can help prevent others from buying the same faulty product.”

In the meantime, Maltese Clean Solutions is working to ensure that only fresh, smell-good detergent hits the shelves. “We apologize for any inconvenience caused,” Grech says. “We’re committed to resolving this issue as quickly as possible and ensuring our customers’ satisfaction.”
