Truck Fire Causes Marfa Road Traffic Chaos
Flames Lick Marfa Road: Truck Fire Causes Traffic Chaos
Drivers on Marfa Road were met with an unexpected inferno this afternoon as a truck, laden with construction materials, burst into flames. The blaze, which started around 2 PM, caused traffic to crawl to a halt and sent plumes of smoke into the sky, visible even from the Three Cities.
Firefighters Battle Blaze
The Malta Fire Service swiftly responded to the scene, deploying three tenders and a foam tender to tackle the blaze. Firefighters worked tirelessly to extinguish the fire, which threatened to spread to nearby vehicles and buildings. The intense heat could be felt from a distance, with some eyewitnesses reporting temperatures reaching over 40°C.
“I was driving home from work when I saw the smoke,” said Joe, a resident of nearby Birkirkara. “By the time I reached Marfa Road, the truck was fully engulfed. It was like something out of a movie.”
Traffic Nightmare and Delays
The fire caused significant traffic delays, with commuters stuck in standstill traffic for over an hour. Buses were diverted, and motorists were advised to avoid the area. The Police urged drivers to exercise caution and follow diversions, with some motorists reporting delays of up to two hours.
“I was on my way to a meeting in Msida,” said Maria, a frustrated driver. “I ended up being over an hour late because of the traffic. It was chaos.”
Traffic finally resumed to normal around 4 PM, with the fire service declaring the scene safe. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
