Sunshine for the Future
The 10-megawatt solar farm, spread over 20,000 square meters, is set to generate enough electricity to power around 2,500 Maltese homes. The project, a joint venture between local energy company Enemalta and Italian renewable energy giant Enel Green Power, is a testament to Malta’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.
“Today marks a pivotal moment in Malta’s energy history,” said Hon. Michael Farrugia, Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Inclusive Development, as he addressed the crowd. “We are harnessing the power of the sun to create a cleaner, greener future for our children.”
Jobs and Innovation
The Marsa Solar Farm is not just about clean energy; it’s also about jobs and innovation. The project has created around 100 jobs during its construction phase, with more expected in maintenance and operations. it’s a stepping stone towards Malta’s ambitious goal of generating 70% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
“This is just the beginning,” said Inħabib Gatt, CEO of Enemalta. “We’re not only reducing our reliance on fossil fuels, but we’re also driving innovation and creating new opportunities for Malta.”
