The plans, submitted by a local football club, envision transforming a vast tract of land along Triq il-Kunċizzjoni into a state-of-the-art sports complex. The project, if approved, would see the construction of a new stadium, training pitches, and ancillary facilities. “This is not about being against progress or sports,” says Maria Azzopardi, a long-time Pembroke resident. “But this is our home, our community. We can’t just let it be turned into a concrete jungle.”

Traffic congestion is another major worry. Triq il-Kunċizzjoni, already a busy thoroughfare, is expected to bear the brunt of the increased traffic generated by the new complex. Residents fear that their once quiet streets will be clogged with cars, making it difficult to navigate the area, especially during peak hours.

Lastly, there’s the issue of green space. Pembroke, with its lush gardens and tree-lined streets, is known for its verdant beauty. The proposed development, however, would see a significant chunk of this green space paved over, much to the dismay of environmentalists and residents alike.
