Fire Guts Abandoned Paceville Nightclub

Blaze Engulfs Abandoned Nightclub in Paceville

Smoke billowed into the night sky last evening as a fire broke out at the derelict former nightclub, ‘Club 77’, in Paceville. The blaze, which started around 9 pm, sent flames leaping high into the air, visible from nearby streets and even from across the bay in Sliema.

Firefighters Battle the Blaze

Fire services were quick to respond, with multiple engines and a turntable ladder arriving at the scene within minutes. Firefighters battled the inferno for hours, their hoses snaking across the street as they worked to contain the blaze. The fire was finally extinguished around midnight, leaving behind a charred shell of what was once a bustling nightspot.

No Injuries Reported, Cause Under Investigation

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, as the building has been abandoned for several years. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with police and fire services examining the scene today. Neighbouring businesses were temporarily evacuated as a precaution, but all have since resumed normal operations.

This is not the first time the abandoned club has made headlines. In recent years, it has become a magnet for squatters and vandals, with repeated calls from residents and business owners for the building to be demolished or repurposed. Today’s fire has once again brought the issue to the forefront, with local councillors promising to push for action.

In the meantime, residents and businesses in the area are left to clean up the mess left behind by the fire. Soot and ash cover nearby buildings, and the acrid smell of smoke still lingers in the air. Despite the disruption, many are relieved that the fire was contained and no one was hurt.
